As land becomes more scarce in our large cities and pricing pressure reduces land size, designers and builders have become smarter about how best to utilise the available space when building a home. This then creates further challenges for infrastructure providers such as water tank manufacturers.
In addition to the challenge of finding the space required for water storage (remembering that 1,000 litres of water requires 1m³ of space), the access issue can often be the most difficult challenge of all. How do you carry a 10m³ rainwater tank to the rear yard on a home site with very limited space and built to the boundaries.
An innovative solution to the challenge of finding an optimal size water tank and overcoming the access issue has been designed by Waterplex®. It is a steel tank supplied in a flat-pack format which can be assembled on site. There are more than 250 different size configurations and once colour options are included there are more than 6,000 different product combinations.
In a recent installation the owners of a new home needed more than 20,000 litres of rainwater storage, some of which was for stormwater detention purposes. Not only was there “no available space” around the home for 20 cubic metres of water storage, the only space that could be found had a “dog-leg” shape and there was no access for the water tanks to get to the dog-leg site.
The solution was the AquaClad® modular rainwater tank from Waterplex® that could be carried through the site by hand in its component parts. Two different width tanks were used to fit within the dog leg space and shape. The tanks were built in-situ in less than a day and the home owners now have more than 20,000 litres of water storage in what was previously “wasted space”.
And more importantly the home owners were able to meet their council and building regulations and incorporate 20,000 litres of rainwater storage without visually impacting their home.
