GUIDE - for searching a blocked drain or sewer - ANC Distribution

If you’re unsure why your drain is blocked then you need to investigate it further. Ideally, a look inside your pipes to figure out what is stopping water from flowing. How does your plumber do it without disassembling half of your entire bathroom you may ask...

The answer is a Drain Camera.

Before drain cameras made their debut, the only way a plumber could get a trueblocked-drain picture of the condition of their pipes was to excavate. This meant a whole lot of mess, digging, frustration, wasted time and often a huge cost to the owner.
By utilising the simplicity of a drain camera, your plumber only needs a very small entry point. With the correct equipment, you won’t believe just how easily, safely and cleanly the problem quickly turns into a solution. One of the most high quality and user-friendly cameras which fulfil this requirement on the market today is the Spartan Drain Inspection Camera Range. The Spartan Camera comes in a range of sizes suitable for the novice up to the professional plumber. Its pricing also reflects the customers needs as it ranges in cable lengths (from 40 metres up to 120 metres in length), so no job is too big or too small to handle.

Cameras are very versatile and can locate blockages within piping sizes from 50mm up to 300mm in diameter. Similar to how medical practitioners perform scans to determine what’s going on inside the body, Spartan drain cameras allow your plumber to conduct a more accurate pipeline inspection and better diagnose (and therefore solve) your blockage problem. Drain cameras investigate much wider and deeper in order to detect the root cause of blocked drainage.
Spartan Drain Cameras are used to locate the exact problem within your sewer line and pipes. Although these cameras are not directly used to fix the problem, they are essential in assisting professionals to find a direct response.
Not only do Spartan Drain Cameras find the obvious, they are also full of features to make your life easier.

Most Common Types of Pipe Blockage Problems

Pipes may be disguised by wall in all areas of your home but that doesn’t mean that they are not prone to damage. Here are the most frequent and common issues that may plague your pipes, which can be detected through camera inspection:

  • Tree roots: If you have very large or multiple trees in your area, some of the roots may have broken off and fallen into your sewer line. When this happens and nothing is done about it, the tree roots can cause damage to your sewer or pipe lines.
  • Pipe problems: The soil which surrounds your pipes and sewer lines can often shift over time, therefore your pipes may end up collapsing, developing cracks or even become misaligned and broken.
  • An unknown blockage: This can happen when a buildup of grease, leaves or other objects get stuck in your pipes or sewer lines. These obstructions make it difficult for water to flow freely.
  • Deterioration or corrosion of metal pipes: Older pipes and sewer lines were often made with materials other than PVC piping. The use of metal properties in the pipes themselves can make them prone to deterioration and corrosion, which might cause them to collapse.
  • Bellied pipes or leaking joints: Bellied pipes occur when a part of the pipe has descended which then allows for waste and other debris to gather. Leaking joints are caused by broken seals between pipes.
